Details of the Rolling Oaks residence are coming together as the project is nearing completion. Here is a preview of a few moments where project materials come together. The house is connected to the landscape and the details and finishes support the color and warmth found in the setting. Some of the furniture is now arriving and the house is beginning to feel like home. We are very happy for our client and their family and anticipate a complete move-in in the next few weeks!

The Bennett Ridge Residence is progressing nicely. The photos here show current construction progress. Framed views of the landscape are taking shape, including those from the main living area capturing the surrounding trees and oak woodlands, as well as the master bedroom vista of the Valley of the Moon (Sonoma Valley). We're excited to see what's next for this hilltop post-fire rebuild project.

Each project site has its own character. The setting for a new residential project in the area of Bodega is compelling and unique. A short distance from the project site, are the coastline and the Bodega dunes. The landscape is composed of wind-swept grasses and brush, and spotted with sculpted cypress and pine. Underlying the vegetation are sand dunes, altered by the winds and making this a changing ground. The sound of the nearby surf crashing permeates everything. The colors and materials of the site are valuable inspiration for the project. Here we've collected a few samples of debris from the beach to represent the colors and materials contained in the landscape. How might these materials contribute to the project?

I wanted to share some views of a new wine storage building completed last year for Napanook wines produced by Dominus Estate.  The 6600 square-foot refrigerated warehouse building is located on winery property in beautiful Yountville, in the heart of Napa Valley. The matte-finished dark metal cladding blends with the oak-studded landscape and with existing utility and agricultural structures at the site. The structure is a pre-engineered metal building by Butte Construction, with GMH Builders as the General Contractor. A rooftop solar array produces power to off-set energy use by the winery. Many thanks go to our client and project team for envisioning and completing the new facility.

We are the Design Architect working with a small, rural school district in Sonoma County on the addition of 3 new structures to their elementary school campus. The project consists of a Multi-use building, a Kindergarten & Science classroom building, and a new canopy structure at the campus entry. Below is a progress view of the Multi-use interior. The design recalls lofty agricultural barn interiors, with expressive structure, and expanses of large windows to capture panoramic views of the surrounding vineyards and countryside near Healdsburg, California. We are teamed with Executive Architect Dan Hardin.

Views of recent construction progress on a new residence near Santa Rosa. The original home was lost to the Tubbs fire of October, 2017. The view from the new living room is taking shape. It captures Bennett Peak and Taylor Mountain where the northwest outlet of Sonoma Valley (image left) joins the Santa Rosa Plain (image right). We are thankful to work in this beautiful place with amazing clients.

This project design is a rebuild of a residence lost to the Tubbs fire in Sonoma County during October, 2017. The new plan simplifies the previous multi-level layout by placing the family's living spaces on a single level. The arrangement captures views of the farm and valley below. The project is beginning construction now and we're hoping our client will be able to return home soon. Sometimes building means more.

It has been several months since the October, 2017 Tubbs and Nunns fires tore thru Sonoma County. Many, many homes were lost. It's been an honor to work with several local families in their home rebuilding efforts after the tragic fires. We have been engaged with new clients, family and friends in the design and construction of new and rebuilt homes. Our hope is that the new designs will be respectful of the needs of every client and bring a new spirit to each place they have courageously decided to restore. Here is a snapshot of one project design currently underway in Sonoma.

I just wanted to share a project completed a year ago with family in Reno, Nevada. The renovation was a collaboration with my cousin Cristin Priest, an amazing interior designer and blogger at Simplified Bee.  www.simplifiedbee.com. The updates include the central kitchen, dining and converted living room in her beautiful historic home. Pictured here are views of the kitchen before and after, and some of the project materials that give a sense of Cristin's great taste and sense of style.
